Wood Print Brooches

Renegade Weekend, Shop Update Wednesday

I'm in the midst of my first outing to Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco, it's a successful whirlwind experience. It's Sunday morning of the second day as I type, thank you to all the people who bought items and chatted with me yesterday!

I'll be updating my shop with all my new items that did not make it into my Etsy before this weekend. "Where are those awesome wallets, notebooks, wood print brooches? I don't see them in your online shop" you might ask. I'll be back with a shop update by Wednesday this week, please do check back.

Tears of a Rapper

-I have washed half of the dishes.
-I have packed orders.
-I have overdue library books to return and holds to pick up
-I have to call in payment to cable/internet so they don't disconnect us. (eep!)
-I have to go for a walk.

I'm excited for a new Neistat Brothers episode tonight, I watch mine Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, it's invigorating and gets me all hyped up to create.

New Illustration, Polaroid Land Camera

I'm working like a crazy person these days, getting new designs to debut at Renegade Craft SF. I'm determined to make large pillows with the single polaroid drawing, I think it would look phenomenal on my couch & probably your as well! I'll also have polaroid lapel pins, stickers, notebooks, more available in the shop soon.

I'm working on a Polaroid illustration today. Being that I was born in 1977, this model is an appropriate choice. Plus, it's the best looking polaroid in my opinion. Soon to be a wood cut lapel pin, among other happy home items in time for Renegade Craft SF next month, the count down has begun and I'm tackling my master list steadily.

I got up early today, go USA! Excited for Saturday's match.

Wood Camera Lapel Pin

I've been quite unfocused this week I feel, only because I have so many ideas I want to execute in time for Renegade SF at the end of July. I'm giving myself the month of May for designing & trying new ideas. Then June and July are about the execution of said ideas that pass the prototype test.

I like the fact that you can blog straight from Flickr, I'm testing it out with this post. There aren't any easy html code buttons, but for a basic eye candy post, it's quite nice.

Update: When posting straight from Flickr there was an unsavory 2px border around the photo. You can remove it by editing the imbedded code to 0px. Yay.

New Fave: The Pin Pals

I stumbled upon The Pin Pals shop via the new Etsy feature 'Suggested Shops' in my favorites section. I'm enjoying this way of browsing so much more than sifting through the heaps of the not so great. The Pin Pals make handmade goodies from Montreal and I'm smitten with not only the wonderful items, but also the packaging. Fun!




My birthday is right around the corner and this pin above would be much loved. (hint hint, dear family/friends)

Working and Expanding

I'm training myself to approach my daily work in a different way. I tend to focus only on the immediate tasks, living/working only in the present doesn't seem to suit my future too well. How am I ever going to reach those loftier goals if I only have my orders filled, workspace organized, inventory at a decent level, etc...? So, I've decided to start working on those "someday" or "wouldn't it be great if" projects even when everything else is not done, because it never is. I've started a list of "awesome things I want to happen" and I'm researching and working on them in tandem with the everyday upkeep.

Onwards and upwards!

Notebooks + Wallets + Handmade

A sneak peek at something new I'm working on, handmade notebooks & vinyl goods with my patterns and illustrations. The first batch of them I sent out for consignment orders, but I'll be adding some in the shop this week. The notebooks are made from all recycled materials too.

The inside of the wallet is even better, I'll reveal more this week. My sewing machine has been jammed for a few days, so I'll be performing surgery on it later.

Product photos are a lot of work

I've just begun a much needed update of product photos. As time goes on, these improve, but gosh they are a lot of work. So I am spacing it out over the next few weeks instead of doing it all at once. I like how using my hand in some shots adds a relative size aspect.



Time to get back to work getting a few packages ready for the post office. I'm making some notebooks from my new patterns that are turning out amazing. FUNctional indeed.

DIY bunting necklace using scrap leather

A few weekends ago I went to Scandinavian Designs to have a look around. I've always seen the building from the freeway calling my name, but hadn't ventured in there. There was a tray of leather samples in awesome colors and I couldn't resist taking a few home with me (I admit I took 3 of the mustard yellow & orange, in my mind I was rescuing them.) I had a few silver necklaces left over from an Etsy supply purchase that were not the right size for my typewriter necklaces, so I broke out my little hole punch to test if it'd punch through leather, and to my surprise it did. This is the finished product of only about 5 minutes worth of work and the funny part is I get more compliments on this than when I'm wearing a one of kind hand painted piece I labored over lovingly for hours.

Envelopes & Correspondence

I needed some cute way to send off my freebie owl stickers that would do them justice, a plain security envelope just wasn't cutting it. I printed off 50 of these guys and I'm even using them for bills, which makes paying bills a little less ugly.



I've had a few secret projects underway that I'd love to share this week. I took photos yesterday, but then realized my memory card wasn't in the camera today, so that'll have to wait.

I have tackled a zipper, this is BIG

A sneaky peeky at some new things on the horizon:) This has been on my list of things to learn for quite some time. Done. *Pat on back.* Not bad for my first zipper attempt I must say, though I did sew the key ring in opposite/inside on the first go, but I fixed it. Oh yeah, that's my fabric!

Mengsel Design

Mengsel Design makes hand screen printed home accessories and I want everything in their shop! I was reading this blog post on Scoutie Girl about kicking down doors (which I have a encyclopedia of, but the mental stamina is eluding me today to write words of encouragement that'll make you pump a fist in the air) and my eyes wandered over to an ad on the side.

Gah. I want these for my kitchen! (Family, friends who are reading this, my birthday is next month, please dull the sting of aging with a wonderful gift from this shop.)



It's Friday night, I had a laundry date with the hubby, which is our new thing. Sounds depressing but it's actually not, the laundromat is in an awesome area and there are bustling sidewalk cafes, galleries and yogurt shops to visit while your clothes are washing and drying. Not having a washing and dryer isn't too shabby after all. Never mind the days when I'd pay $10 to find a clean pair of underwear. Oh my.

DIY gift bow

I stumbled upon this DIY gift bow tutorial on How About Orange this morning and knew I had to try it with some of my own prints. Here is my first attempt, a little sloppy I must say, but that's because I'm a lazy measurer and following directions isn't my forte. But after a few tries they'll be perfect in time for some Mother's Day gifts and I think I might make a bunch with my logo and patterns for Renegade Craft Fair SF as gift wrap freebies.

"That seems like a lot of work for a bow" husband says. Yep, I like tedious craftiness to distract me from the growing ToDo's of serious work/goals that need my attention thank you. Sometimes you have to drop everything and make a damn bow from scratch.
