Mengsel Design makes hand screen printed home accessories and I want everything in their shop! I was reading this blog post on Scoutie Girl about kicking down doors (which I have a encyclopedia of, but the mental stamina is eluding me today to write words of encouragement that'll make you pump a fist in the air) and my eyes wandered over to an ad on the side.

It's Friday night, I had a laundry date with the hubby, which is our new thing. Sounds depressing but it's actually not, the laundromat is in an awesome area and there are bustling sidewalk cafes, galleries and yogurt shops to visit while your clothes are washing and drying. Not having a washing and dryer isn't too shabby after all. Never mind the days when I'd pay $10 to find a clean pair of underwear. Oh my.

DIY gift bow

I stumbled upon this DIY gift bow tutorial on How About Orange this morning and knew I had to try it with some of my own prints. Here is my first attempt, a little sloppy I must say, but that's because I'm a lazy measurer and following directions isn't my forte. But after a few tries they'll be perfect in time for some Mother's Day gifts and I think I might make a bunch with my logo and patterns for Renegade Craft Fair SF as gift wrap freebies.

"That seems like a lot of work for a bow" husband says. Yep, I like tedious craftiness to distract me from the growing ToDo's of serious work/goals that need my attention thank you. Sometimes you have to drop everything and make a damn bow from scratch.

Owl fabric in the making

I've been working on some more fabric designs for my Spoonflower page. I got my large sample swatch print out for proofing and I need to readjust some of the colors and the pattern sizing, especially for the typewriters. I'm going to have different size patterns available I think. There is also a San Francisco based company called DPI that I'm going to check out, they also do print by the yard with no minimum. I ordered a sample swatch book to check out the quality of the fabric.

One tip for you Spoonflower peeps designing your own fabric- I just ordered a fat quarter of the Linen-Cotton Canvas, my design repeat was fairly small, each typewriter about 1.5 inches (line drawing), the weave of the fabric was bigger than the design lines could handle, so the result was blurry looking, not good! I'm betting if I got the same size pattern printed on the quilting weight fabric or any flat small weave, it would have been beautiful and crisp. All my swatches came out beautifully as far as the print quality on the quilting weight, so I'm waiting until I figure out the sizing till I make the typewriters available. I've had lots of inquiries, so I just want to be sure it's all squared before you buy.

Renegade Handmade SF

I decided to apply for the San Francisco Renegade Craft Fair this year. This was the first time I applied and was prepared to throw down a large chunk of change for a booth. I was all butterflies and nerves till I got the great news that craftyFOLK was indeed accepted. This is going to be a big, huge, ginormous 2 day event (July 31st & Aug 1st) and I'm grateful I have both my husband and mom there to help. I like having something big to work towards and my goal is to have at least 100 different products available in my shop and for my booth. Let the fun hard work begin.
